Axentriq Software Ltd is a London-based software development company building bespoke platforms and data-driven systems for clients in demanding, operationally complex industries, including maritime shipping and logistics. We design, build, deploy, and maintain production software end to end — from technical discovery and solution scoping through to development, integration, deployment, and long-term support.
The role
We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to join our engineering team. This is a hands-on software engineering role: the majority of your time will be spent designing and building software, whether internal products or systems delivered directly for clients. You will work closely with client teams to understand their operational problems, translate them into technical designs, and then build, ship, and support the solutions yourself.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain web applications and backend services across the full stack, writing clean, well-structured, production-quality code.
- Own features end to end: technical discovery, solution design, implementation, code review, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
- Build and maintain integrations with client and third-party systems (REST/SOAP APIs, databases, ERP and finance systems, reporting pipelines).
- Work directly with client stakeholders to gather requirements, run technical discovery sessions, and turn business problems into scoped, buildable technical proposals.
- Set up and improve deployment and delivery infrastructure (containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration) for the systems you build.
- Investigate and resolve production issues, including performance analysis and database query optimisation.
- Contribute to internal engineering standards, documentation, and tooling.
What we're looking for
Essential
- Strong, demonstrable experience as a software engineer building and shipping production web applications and services (typically 3+ years, or an exceptional portfolio).
- Proficiency in a modern programming language and framework used in our stack (e.g. TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js/React, or similar), plus solid SQL and relational database skills.
- Experience with containerised deployments (e.g. Docker) and modern delivery practices (version control, CI/CD, code review).
- Experience integrating with external systems via APIs, and comfort working with real-world, messy production data.
- Excellent written and spoken English, and the ability to communicate technical ideas clearly to non-technical client stakeholders.
- Right to work in the UK, or eligibility for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route (we are able to consider sponsorship for this role).
Desirable
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in a client-facing or consulting engineering environment (discovery, scoping, proposals).
- Exposure to shipping, logistics, finance, or other data-heavy operational domains.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and infrastructure-as-code.
